The Teacher Trainees Association -Eastern Greater Accra(EGA) Sector had comprehensively opened up to the news desk of the TTAG weekly Journal(TWJ) concerning the EGA-Aid project.
The EGA-Aid was officially launched on Monday, 5th October 2020 at the SDA College of Education, Koforidua Asokore. The project has so far supported 20 financially challenged trainees to register for the just-ended licensure examination.
According to the EDA President, Miss Francisca Adjei Yeboah, EDA-Aid is a fund set up to help financially challenged or students with financial difficulty in the sector, and what necessitated its formation was the need to do something for the trainees regardless of the challenges that the year presented.
“Looking at the year 2020 a lot didn’t go as planned. A lot of programs had to be postponed, others canceled because our programs are geared towards meeting together, sharing, and socializing.
These were some of the things that covid-19 came to do away with.what inspired this initiative was the need to do something for the trainees regardless of the challenges that the year presented. we wanted to touch the lives of trainees even though coronavirus made it impossible to touch anyone”.
She again added that the policy document governing the EGA-Aid is still at the planning stage and urged all as well-wishers to financially donate the aid.
” The policy document governing this whole fund is still in prospect which means the sector executive council, is yet to sit and plan the policy document for the whole aid fund”.
The mode of contribution is one of the key things that this document will look at. We’re seeking that every individual, organization, etc.whose interest is in supporting students financially for all the good reasons they can think of, to contribute to this Aid because this is not just a student, this a student teacher who is being trained to impact the lives of future leaders of this country, hence, necessary that everyone, especially the public to support this fund This will encourage the youth to avail themselves to be trained as teachers in colleges of education especially colleges in EDA Sector because they’ll have an assurance someway thus when they’re in dying need of support we are going to come to their aid.
An account number will be put out soon, where the general public can contribute to the fund so that we can support our brothers and sisters in Colleges. It’s worth of notice, that our first donation has been received. The Principal if SDA College of Education, Dr.Koomson, was the first to donate to the aid on the day of our launch and we appreciate his contribution to this particular fund.
Mode of Application
Concerning how trainees can apply, she stated that it would be communicated to trainees through their student Representative Council(SRC) when college resumes. She clearly stated that those who are qualified to apply should be a financially challenged trainee in the sector.
