Jon Rahm, the 28-year-old golfer from Spain, had an incredible 2021 season earning his second major and fourth victory of the year at the Masters. He previously won the U.S. Open at Torrey Pines earlier in the year. During the final round, Rahm opened up a five-shot lead on his competitor, Brooks Koepka, who faltered on the back nine after entering the final round leading by two shots.
Despite hitting his tee shot into the woods on the final hole, Rahm remained composed and hit a provisional shot to secure his win with a par at No. 18. He ended the tournament with a final-round 3-under-par 69, bringing his total score to 276.
Reflecting on his victory, Rahm admitted that he wasn’t sure how he was going to react until the third shot at No. 18. Koepka finished tied for second with Phil Mickelson, a three-time Masters champion. Mickelson, who is 52 years old, finished at 6-under-par 65 on the final day, making him the oldest runner-up in tournament history.
He was rock solid all day, overhauling Brooks Koepka. Various other men put in fine challenges on the day but in truth nobody quite got close to the Spaniard.
It’s a special moment for Rahm too, doing so on the birthday of Seve Ballesteros – the first player from the country to win the Masters.
